With a lighter note to the Olympics, J.R.Celski an American Short Track Speed Skater returns from a gruesome cut to his inner thigh that almost took his life if 2 cm deeper. With this being his first Olympics, he took home the bronze medal in the 1500 meter race. This being his first medal in his Olympic career and his first race since his injury.
With 3 total medals these Olympics, it's hard to believe Bode Miller was on the verge of retiring from his sport to pursue a career in tennis. On Sunday, Miller took home his first gold medal in the Super-Combo which combines Downhill and Slalom by nearly half a second. Miller has also won a silver in the Super-G and a bronze in Downhill. With the 3 medals during these Olympics, he is tied for 2nd all-time for medals won during a single Olympic games tailing Eric Heiden who won 5 gold medals during the 1980 Olympics.
Another surprise winner this year is Evan Lysacek, who defeated Evgeni Plushenko in Men's Finals. Even though Lysacek was the defending World Champion, the World Champion has not won the gold medal since Scott Hamilton an another American at the 1980 Olympics. Plushenko who thought he was robbed because he hit a quad, while Lysacek only hit a triple. The difference between the two's free skate was the dance and transition pieces Lysacek put together.
With another 7 days of events, many are sure to surprise many. Maybe the US Hockey team can surprise Canada and defeat them like the Miracle on Ice team did. Let's also not forget the fastest growing sport in the US as well. Curling, who doesn't love curling? I catch myself watching every chance I can.

All these fascinating athletes are doing so well, especially the USA with the lead of 24 medals. It's amazing to watch the athletes do so well at what they do best, but what I don't enjoy is watching what the network shows when the athletes hurt themselves. I don't think that should be showed on air over and over again. As for me some of the Olympic sports are exciting to watch. I love curling also, but bobsledding is the most exciting to me. I'm looking forward to the next 7 days of the Olympics to see if the USA can pull the most medals off.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about all of the American medals. Since I am from the United States, I feel a special connection to all of the US athletes. I also love hearing about all of the surprise stories in this year’s Olympic Games in the media. I have been very interested in these Olympic Games, because the United States is doing so well. I hope we have some more inspirational stories yet to be written. The media should thank all of the competitors for giving them so much material to cover.
ReplyDeleteWooo for curling! Most people mightfind it boring and maybe even ask themselves how is it an olympic sport, but they obviously don't the concentration and percision that it aquires to be a curlist. But the Luge is by far my favorite even though the tragedy with the young luger. The luge is a fast and dangerous sport and i find it very exhilarating.
ReplyDeleteYes USA is doing very well in the olympics. With a couple more days of the olympics left who knows what could happen. The Germans could have the most medals or even canada. J. R. accident probably would have put me intirement from skating. But he is a tough competitor. He is well needed on the American team.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a wonderful thing being represented by such great talent at the Olympics. I am extremely proud everytime I hear the United States National Anthem being played or seeing the our flag hang above other countries. I feel that there is a sense of unity that these games bring to our nation. The way that the athletes perform is mind boggling at times. I can feel there excite ment or disappointment when they meet the goal that they have been training to achieve. I hope that the U.S. can keep up the good work and say above the rest in the medal counts and that I continue to hear the national anthem being played loud and clear for the world to hear.
